Before we move on to our weekly newsletter, there is something I am super excited to share. We are back with our in-person conferences and our first one is happening on Friday.
But most importantly, these events, and especially the offline ones, are critical for the whole ecosystem; they bring everyone closer and help build stronger relations/networks.
We have 4 large format offline AI conferences in the year and pride ourselves in building these very niche, high-quality properties over years of hard work.
Join us for our first one.
There is quite a bit of taboo in India about not having a secure, permanent job. I, too, faced some resistance and questioned/ doubted myself multiple times in this journey, says freelance data scientist Krishna Sai Vootla. The electrical engineer from IIT, Gandhinagar, was always a numbers guy and had never heard of data science until 2016. Krishna has worked with Capgemini, and Tredence before striking out on his own. We had a fun chat with him about the freelance scene in data science. He is quite a character (he recently deployed a code to record his emotions) and I think youād find this read riveting.
Over the last 7 days, we covered some very interesting folks, for eg., Sadaf Sayyad, a data scientist at Intuit, walked us through a typical day at her work, alongside sharing interesting instances, career growth, and the impact she is adding to the team and the ecosystem.
We spoke with the founders of DagsHub, an Israel based startup, that aims to be the GitHub for machine learning. A nine-year-old has developed an app to test your accountancy skills.
We also covered a few unputdownable stories on data science, starting with the most in-demand tech skills in 2022, to āis coding an indispensable skill for a data scientistā ( the answer may or may not surprise you) and if data analysts are any ālesserā than data scientists and engineers. Itās all a status game, folks!
A lot of AI heavyweights are setting up shops in Indiaās Silicon Valley: Moveworks , ABB , ServiceNow, signed up just last week. Earlier, we did a deep dive on the best cities to launch AI startups. And, guess who emerged the winner . We also did a roundup of the major analytics and AI fundings in 2022. Indiaās AI and data science scene is indeed lit.
In light of Indiaās burgeoning AI ecosystem, the DoT is coming up with a fairness framework for AI/ML systems (a little late to the party, though).
On the viral front, a post on the best ML books was making the rounds. While you are at it, check out this story on top books on AI ethics and bias.
