Intel (aka Team Blue) has been witnessing a downturn. The semiconductor company was once the blue-chip maker in the industry, which has lost a huge market share in the past four years. Intel initially held close to 100% market share in the data centre segment, which declined to 97% in 2018, tumbling down to 80% in 2021 and further dropping to 70% in 2022.
Intel has been innovating to catch up to the lost market but none have paid off. The recent launch of Meteor Lake is the innovation that the company is banking on to take off.
Meteor Lake will use Intel 4 process nodes and have a “chiplet” system-on-chip (SoC) design that allows Intel to deliver advanced intellectual properties (IPs). Besides, Meteor Lake client PC processors will be the first PC platform from Intel to have a built-in neural VPU, a dedicated AI engine integrated directly into the SoC to power efficiently-run AI models.
