Indian IT ‘GenAI’ Quarterly Report
In the FY24 Q2 earnings calls, for most of Indian IT, the focus this time was around generative AI. From cloud to automation, upskilling to reskilling, hiring to freezing, GenAI remained a constant. TCS, Infosys, Wipro, HCLTech, and LTIMindtree, almost everyone is betting big on generative AI, and it is no more fluff talk for Indian IT.
Overall, the Indian IT majors have trained close to seven lakh employees in generative AI, in partnership with companies like Google, Microsoft, Oracle and NVIDIA. However, AIM noted a decline in the total headcount for many IT firms, along with signs of disparity in hiring freshers as they are mostly focusing on training and upskilling their existing employees, besides scaling workflow automation and digital initiatives.
Wipro seems to be leading the race in training its employees for generative AI, followed by TCS and Infosys among others. In terms of product and service adoption, TCS is leading the generative AI conversations with its clients – and no more paying catch-up – followed by Wipro, Infosys and others.
