Whenever a new technology emerges, organisations and their leaders immediately think about how they can profit from it. Unfortunately, this insatiable greed often triumphs over the desire to use technology for the greater good. The same holds true for Generative AI, which is ripe for exploitation and is now caught up at the intersection of innovation and morality.
On one hand, OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft are engrossed in the development of innovative LLM-powered chatbots (ChatGPT, Bard, and Bing Chat) to enhance profitability and promote the greater good. On the other hand, the open-source communities, which were once the source of data for training these AI systems, are now being gated behind paywalls, namely Twitter, Reddit, Stack Overflow and others.
