There was a lull in the cloud gaming market after Google shut down Stadia early this year. At last, about 10 months later, there is some new development in space. Last week, Sony announced the acquisition of iSIZE, a UK-based deep-learning video delivery platform.
Sony explained that the acquisition will help Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) with significant expertise in applying machine learning to video processing.
iSIZE has built its expertise in developing photorealistic neural avatars. Its focus extends to both 2D and 3D modelling, particularly for applications within the gaming and metaverse realms. This strategic emphasis strongly indicates the company's commitment to advancing its cloud gaming endeavours.
The development comes a few months after Jim Ryan, Sony CEO, said, “There’s been lots of attention around cloud gaming. We observe mobility in gaming habits to be an increasingly important trend. The cloud will be fundamental to allowing us or anyone else to exploit that trend of mobility.”
