Metaverse is an abandoned plan for now. Two weeks ago, Microsoft fired its VR and MR teams. Last week, it even shut down its industrial metaverse team. Meta, the prominent figurehead of the revolution to bring about a "metaverse for the future”, is also treading cautiously.
The downturn has brought some much-needed reality checks in its wake, turning big techs a tad pragmatic for now. While the metaverse is losing its sheen, conversational chatbots built on large language models (LLMs) are the latest craze for them. But if you think Microsoft, Google, Meta and others are running after AI-powered conversational bots because it’s the coolest tech revolution of recent times, you’re possibly wrong.
