The metaverse is dead but the idea of metaverse is still breathing. Last week, Meta announced the launch of Meta Quest 3, a 128GB handset worth $499.99. The headset is twice as powerful as Quest 3 and is based on the XR2 chip. Besides, it offers full-colour video passthrough mode, which allows users to see the outside world through the cameras at the front of the device.
Interestingly, Meta Quest 3 was announced just a few days before Apple’s WWDC 2023 event, which is scheduled for June 5. Apple’s rumoured VR device called Reality Pro is expected to have a 4K resolution per eye, six cameras for full body motion tracking, and an M2 chip to offer an immersive experience. The tech giant is also expected to launch a new operating system, called xrOS for the headset.
