While the tech world is going bananas over generative AI, Apple is little bothered about it. It has a completely different AI vision – edge AI. And that’s why the company is likely to explore a partnership with Stability AI.
The assessment is based on recent developments since Apple has been optimising Stable Diffusion and other Stability AI products. After releasing Transformer for Apple chip, the company also open sourced Stable Diffusion XL on Core ML for its cutting-edge Apple Silicon architecture in December.
Apple gave a long explanation in a 500-word blog post: On-device deployment offers several advantages over a server-based approach. Firstly, it prioritises user privacy as all input data remains on the user's device. Secondly, it allows users to use the model without needing an internet connection post-download. Lastly, local deployment empowers developers to cut down or eliminate server-related expenses.
